Marvin Chang

what do we
know about him

grew up in China,
studied abroad in the UK,
and live in the United States.

Not only a 4 years experienced freelance designer, he is also a travler, a movie lover, and his dog Marco’s best buddy.

In December 2020, he graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in Minnesota with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design. At the same time, he was announced to be the student representative speaker for 2020 Minneapolis College of Art and Design Graduation Ceremony, and representing the Class of 2020 (36’20”).

His background is rich in multi-cultural diversification. In 2014 he emigrated from China to study and gain experience in the United States. In addition to fluency (written and verbal) in Mandarin, he possesses a strong command of the English language. Equipped with skills and experience from both cultures and with a specialization in the creative arts. He has developed excellent relationship building design skills throughout his college and professional career path.

Throughout his upbringing, he has experienced three completely different societies in multiple aspects. Therefore, his designs attempt to convey a global perspective, connecting multiple cultures. He aims to create works that are impactful and invoke a sense of inspiration, collaboration, and cohesion. As it is his dream to bridge cultural gaps and increase global awareness with his stories, He longs for a stage, as an aspiring designer, to deliver a unique perspective to the design world.

ABOUT HIS DESIGN STYLE AND INSPIRATION
His design works inspired by the German-style, The International Typographic Style (aka. Swiss Style) as well as cubism and Minimalism, for its objectivity, essential and heavy use of forms. Mies van der Rohe once said :"Less is More." He believes it is the core point of visual communication and it inspires his meticulous aspect. It is graphic design in its essence, as a way to efficiently convey a message without being superfluous or over-designed.
